SO and SUCH

Penggunaan So dan Such

The following constructions are used to indicate a cause and effect (result) relationship.
(berdasarkan susunannya digunakan untuk menyatakan hubungan sebab dan akibat).

Subject + verb + so +  adj/adv + that subject + verb

Example :
Dwi ran so fast that he broke the previous speed record.
The performances were so amaze that we watched it all night.
Karim studied so diligently that he got a best mark.
The student had behaved so badly that he was dismissed from the class.

The rules for clauses including the intensive modifiers are:
(aturan pada klausa yang mencakup jumlah)

Subject + verb + so + many/few + plural count noun + that + subject + Verb

Example:
Bahrun have so many goats that he has to find the grass everyday.
I had so few job offers that it wasn’t difficult to select one.

Subject + verb + so + much/little + non-count noun + that + subject + verb

Example:
He has invested so much money in the project that he cannot abandon it now.
The grass received so little water that it turned brown in the heat.

Subject + verb + such + a + adjective + singular count noun + that ......
                                                                Or
Subject + Verb + so + adjective + a + Singular count noun + that .......

Example:
It was such a hot day that we decided to stay indoor.
It was so hot a day that we decided to stay indoors.
It was such an interesting book that he  couldn’t put it down.
It was so interesting a book that he couldn’t put it down.

Subject + verb + such + adj + plural CN/NCN + that + subject + verb

Example:
Musrifah has such exceptional abilities that everyone is jealous of her.
They have such beautiful pictures that everyone will want one.
He has had such bad luck that he has decided not to gamble.
This is such difficult homework that I will never finish it.

Following the formulas, use either so or such in these sentences as appropriate.
  1. The sun shone _____ brightly that Nunu had to put on his sunglasses.
  2. Yoga was _____ a powerful swimmer that he always won the races.
  3. There were _____few students registered that the class was cancelled.
  4. we had _____ good a time at the party that we hated to leave.
  5. It was _____ a nice day that we decided to go to the beach.
  6. Those were ____difficult assignments that we spent two weeks finishing them.
  7. The book looked _____interesting that he decided to read it.
  8. He worked _____ carefully that it took him a long time to complete the project.
  9. There were _____many people on the bus that we decided to walk.
  10. The program was ____ entertaining that nobody wanted to miss it.
